so yeah...bought the Nikon D40 kit

and this is what I get with a little cropping

looks like if I used photoshop a little I could get some better lighting/color in it maybe:dunno:. All I did was pull it right off the card and crop it down to the part I wanted. Of course the original file is MUUUUUUUUCH bigger:o

what are you claiming isn't in focus? some of the grass?

but no seriously...sit atop your high horse and instead of actually offering suggestions be a dick about it:ugh:

It may seem blurry because the sutter speed was a pinch too slow. Next time bump it up and it will be much clearer. But I love how you got the bird with it's wings open.

He's right, that shot is out of focus. The whole thing, not just grass or something. Frankly, the grass is closer to being in focus than the goose.

If you are going to post a picture for comments, don't get so pussy hurt when someone makes one.

I can't tell if it's actually out of focus or if it's just a really soft lens. What's the exif on it?

if it was something other than "OMG your picture sucks ass" then maybe we'd have a starting point...but hey this OT...what do you expect

that said, imageshack keeps resizing the image, but this was before cropping

He didn't say anything about how your picture sucks, he said it was out of focus, which it is. You need to work on proper focusing, exposure, and composition before you need to worry too much about post-processing.

In this case some PP could've helped a lot though because of the lack of contrast (brown goose, brown murky water, brown dirt in foreground, etc.) You can learn to process photos in a day, but it takes a while to get photography down to where you don't need to do as much processing.

Also, when you're shooting animals like this, try to get down on their level instead of just standing there and shooting down at them.

Why do you say that? I've been using it since it started and I've had zero problems. :dunno: It's better than imageshack anyway.

It's either slightly out of focus, or it's wide-open. Looks like a cloudy day, raise the F-stop to get a sharper picture, but without the light, you'll need to bump ISO to do that. I've seen pics from the kit 18-55, and it's generally sharper than that.
