    Well, while it IS the same lens that ships with the camera, I bought the body only. I've had this lens for over a year and it's pretty good to be honest. I played with a 28-75 tamron and a 24-70L... while those were nice, this is a really great walkaround lens. I'm pretty happy with it overall, although having something that would go to 2.8 would be nice. I bought it for 200 bucks, so you can't really beat the glass for the price.

    im thinking about purchasing the tamron 17-50 for a walk round lens.

    once/if i sell the xti, i wont have the 18-55mm kit lens. other than that, all i have is the 70-200mm f4 L and that doesn't cover everything i want to shoot.
