So I purchased a 50mm 1.8 from slimeball and got it today. At first Everything was coming out very dark, and I finally understand that the aperture was way too high. I lowered the aperture, and now things look better. I know this is such a stupid realization, but for me, it's a break through haha. I'm finally learning. Thanks to slimeball for a great lens! :bigthumb:

leave your camera in auto if you have anything important to take a picture of for the next month or two

Your SLR should never be set to auto.

I disagree, I shot on auto for the first month or two when I got my D50 several years ago. Then look at exif and learn the results of different aperture, shutter speed, and ISO from there.

:hs: in this case...auto is the safer bet in critical situations...i didn't say go practice in auto....but at least auto will tell him his ideal f-stop and shutter speed in givven lighting situations....because obviously he doesn't have that down yet.

Although that's true, I have nothing necessarily important to take pictures of, so I'd like to learn from experience. I think that way I would have better pictures by learning the reasons as to why I should be using certain apertures and shutter speeds, other than it doing it for me and trying to understand why they chose that setting.
