With Mike Brown. A little cage only Sneak Peak! An Interview With a Champion: Mike Thomas Brown I recently got the chance to sit down with WED 145lb champ Mike Thomas Brown. We talked about his past, his title, and his possible future in MMA. Enjoy. Beach Front News: Mike, tell us a little bit about yourself Mike Thomas Brown: My name is Mike Brown, I live in Boca Raton I train here in Coconut Creek. I’m from Maine originally and I’m a professional fighter. BFN: What’s your record? MTB: 22-4 BFN: How’d you end up at American Top Team? MTB: I was training in the North East up in Massachusetts and Maine, I started fighting in a show down here called “The Absolute Fighting Championship” a local show in Florida and then I made some contacts and met Ricardo Liborio from there talked to him and asked him what I had to do to come down and train. He said “get a plain ticket” and that was it. BFN: You recently won the WEC 145lb title. What was it like winning especially from Urijah Faber? MTB: It was umm reaching the pinnacle of the sport for the little guys. You know if you’re 145 pounds is the most prestigious title there is, so it was like finally reaching the top of the mountain. You know, you’re climbing the hill and you wanna reach the top and I finally did. Now I’m just tryin to play king of the mountain, stay on top as long as I can and try to get paid while I’m doin it. BFN: Your next opponent is Jose Aldo, and explosive striker. What are your opinions on him? MTB: He’s a young tough kid man. He’s fast…. Gonna be a tough fight. Its not gonna be easy. All his fans think he’s gonna crush me all my fans think I’m gonna crush him. So there’s only one way to find out whats gonna happen and that’s November 18th go in there and battle it out. BFN: Hows training been goin in preparation? MTB: Its good! I’m in good shape already 5 weeks out. I could fight now if I had to. I’ll peek perfectly. I got no injuries and I’m healthy and ready to go. BFN: You got a strategy planned out? MTB: Do what I do every fight. Try to hit em hard and if it goes to the ground try to be on top. Real simple, you know. Do what I do. BFN: There’s a rumor on the internet that after this fight you’re gonna go to 155lb. Is it true? MTB: Ummmm, I’ll fight 155 but I think right now there are a few other guys in line… I dunno! If I get through Aldo I mean this is a big huge test for me. I’ll be happy with a “W” over him and then from there we reanalyze the situation. I’ll go up to 155 though for opportunity with the UFC, try and make some money or bigger challenges but Aldo’s no joke and this is gonna be a very tough fight to win. BFN: Now, for your local fans when you’re not preppin for a fight and getting ready, training hard, where might they be able to run into you when you’re hangin out? MTB: Maaaan… I don’t go out a ton but sometimes I’ll go to Miami, sometimes I’ll go to the Hard Rock sometimes I’m just here at like AllStars. That’s where I go to see the fights a lot AllStars in Deerfield Beach. I live in West Boca so you’ll prolly find me creepin around Publix or something. I don’t get out a lot, I’m here at the gym and when I do go out its once every couple months go maybe to Blue Martini, maybe goHard Rock or something. BFN: Any sponsors of thank you’s you wanna throw out there? MTB: Yeah! I wanna of course thank American Top Team for everything they’ve given me. Tapout, Champion Nutrition, Bushmaster Firearms and check out my website www.MikeThomasBrown.com BFN: Alright Mike, Thank you very much. MTB: Thanks Bro.
