I am currently looking to two pistols and one of which I am going to buy when I turn 21 in less than a month. I am looking at the Kimber Tactical II 45 cal and the Sig P229r 40 S&W. I know they are two totally different style of guns the Kimber is a 1911 and only holds 8 rounds single action. When the Sig holds 12 rounds and in double single action. My question is has any one out there shot of of these? I can not shoot befor I buy so I want to get the right one.

I've never shot a Tactical II, but I have shot a pro carry. The single shot of the kimber is very nice, but the sig is almost as good and isn't SAO (I'm not a fan of SAO). The sig will also be MUCH easier to maintain and should operate with less fuss.

9mm is a great first handgun. Not so dinky that it's not practical for defense, and cheap enough to throw a TON of ammo down range which is exactly what you want to do with it.

+1 first hand gun I think should be a Glock. Cheap, reliable, low maintenance, loads of aftermarket parts.

I'm still trying to decide on my first. Def gonna be 9mm. I'm pretty sure I wanna go with a Sig now. Either 226 or 229. Leaning towards 229 but it seems harder to find a 229 in 9mm. I'm gettin really antsy though...I'm ready to get a damn gun!

i have a USP 9mm, 1911 .45 and a Sig 229 .40. you should go w/ 9mm for a first gun. cheaper ammo, so you'll be able to shoot more. that being said, both the 229 and 1911 are nice guns.

Wait until you turn 21, then go rent a bunch of different guns, THEN purchase one.

Buy the Sig. I own both a Sig 229 as well as a 1911 and while I absolutely love my 1911, it would make a horrible first gun. You absolutely cannot go wrong with a Sig, they're awesome guns.

    You'd like the M9A1 better :o

Slight edge on ergonomics, incredible edge on muzzle flip.

Yeah, I've heard good things. I just can't find one to shoot. I really don't like buying until I've shot one.
