I like to think of myself as fairly confident. I look good, I dress good, and I have slept with a decent number of attractive women. I have a pretty girlfriend right now.

When I see an attractive girl I havent talked to, and I'm admiring her, if she makes eye contact I cant help but look away. Come to think of it, I do the same thing with dudes to (not interested).

I dont have a problem with eye contact in any other situation. I can hold eye contact after having met said girl, or anyone just fine, but its before I've talked to them that gets me.

Whats up with this. Am I not as confidant as I think? What do I do next, smile? :noes:

Thanks for the advice vag :o

the rule for men is always hold eye contact with women.

with men (business relationship, for ex - not seduction) it's use a lot of eye contact but take breaks.

Everybody does that I think, well I do it. I believe its pretty normal, don't have to worry about it
You could try to smile, but theres always the chance that instead of smiling she then looks away, and you lose face

hit it right on the head.

women see confidence through the simplest things. Eye contact is the MOST important in my eyes. Its funny how they will look away all nervous if you hold it too long. Its like you're looking into their souls lol. gets em good though. :wiggle:

you can tell a lot about anyone with the way they look at you while they are speaking.

There was a thing on Daily Planet (Discovery channel show for those that don't know) a few weeks back.

It's a natural response, we are always looking at peoples faces but always look away when they look back at us. They explained it as your body not wanting to accidentally show aggression or trigger someone elses. And it generally only happens with people you don't know. Has little to do with confidence and a lot to do with how we're wired as a species.

So since it's actually a natural response the only way to stop doing it is to make a mental effort not to look away. Intentionally get caught.

Yeah, I say you just stare and keep on staring. Never break eye contact. Ever.

I can see that. Dogs and cats see staring as a sign of aggression.

:werd: Unless you're the recognized and respected "alpha" or pack leader, that is. Again though, it's a matter of dealing with someone you know vs. someone you don't.

I remember as a kid staring into my dog's eyes through a sliding glass door for like 20 seconds. She snapped at me and bit the glass and it scared the shit out of me. From then on I have never stared into another dog's eyes for an extended period of time.

i have no problem with eye contact at all. Even in normal situations. I went on a hippy brain washing course once and we did an exercise where we stood about a foot away from each other and just looked in each others eyes for a good 20 minutes.
After that looking someone in the eye isn't as scary as it used to be and I am okay with that.

You catch someone's eye, you smile and either say hello or nod. At least that's what i would do, regardless of attraction.

If you see their eyes lock with yours for more than a second, wink at them. I'm actually trying to get into the habit of doing this. I've gotten some  responses hehe

When I make eye contac with a girl and she doesn't look away right away I get the impression that she's interested which makes me unconciousoy attracted to her if she's not ugs

My thing is to smile and just mouth "hi".

My favorite is when a guy walks by a girl he'll never see again and gives her an aggressive dirty look so she doesn't get the satisfaction of being ogled at. I mean, he ain't gonna see her again... so either smile or don't look at all.

There's never a downside to smiling.

There's innocent, flirty eye contact, and then there's this:

    :bowrofl:

It is also a doggie-dominance thing. When my lab comes up to me as I am cooking food I stare at her, and she walks away.
