I'm looking at getting my fisrt digital camera within a few weeks. And being my first digicam, I don't want anything overcomplicated, but at the same time, want something I can learn the different aspects of taking photo's.

I've been looking at the Nikon CP4500, 5400, Canon A80, G5, Sony DSC-V1. Mainly I'd like something with 4-5MP, good macro lense, reasonable battery life, easy to use, but also has advanced adjustments for when I get the hang of things.

Main use will be close up shots of pc hardware, outdoor scenery shots, pics of cars and motorbikes, and the usual parties, gatherings etc.

Any recommendations/comments on the above, or other camera's would be great.

Relative camera prices that I've found in AU from lowest to most expensive:
    - Canon A80 ($650)
    - Nikon CP 4500 ($850)
    - Nikon CP 5400 ($1000)
    - Canon G5 ($1050)
    - Sony DSC-V1 ($1100)

Personally i'd go with the Canon Powershot A70 if you can find one. I really doubt you need a 4-5Mp camera, the 3.2mp on the A70 would do you fine. It has almost all the features of the A80, except for the maximum picture size (ie. it has macro, portrait, night, motion etc..).

Canon A80 is found retail for $399. Awesome camera, I almost went with the A70, but now that I have the A80 I don't think I could live without the flip-out rotating lcd screen. And the picture quality is better on the A80.
