First day of collegiate wrestling. Back is sore, should I lift?

    So wrestling practice started today at USC and my back is pretty sore from taking a couple of hard blows.

    Is it a bad idea to lift today? Part of me says deadlifts will help strech out the back and relax the soreness, the other part of me says it will fuck it up more.

    Advice?

    because we are extremely low key. There are maybe 15 of us, and we are right on the cusp of becoming an official sport. Wrestling at the club level at the moment.

    Also, semester just started like 2 weeks ago.

    And damn too late, staying home to work and eat. Thank god I'm at least done cutting.

    Only because we don't have an actual wrestling team. Pretty much everyone there (except me) has wrestled since highschool.

    yeah. I went in expecting pretty much the general club crowd, not really into it, out of shape etc. I was happy to find that most guys had probably 8 or so years of experience and were damn serious about it. Not a single person out of shape or not giving 110%

    My teams a club and we've been wrestling since September, really late to start now. We wrestle in the NCWA Division, you guys??

    So this is your first wrestling experience? You're going to feel like shit for a little while. Your neck is going to get really tired and sore. Your shoulders and back are going to get really tired and sore. I'd pick up a knee pad for your dominant leg when you shoot or you're going to pull all the hair out of your knee.

    Ugh, I could never get down on that. I wore kneepads on both legs in matches, but in practice I only wore one on my shot leg.

    i used to wear kneepads but once you get used to none its better...especially if you ride legs and makes shot defense easier

    I'm 5'10" and wrestled at 119. I loved riding legs because I was usually taller than the guys I wrestled. I didn't have any problems with the pads at all. :dunno:

    well sleeves wouldnt really be a problem but then again...sleeves look gay
