Started it yesterday so it was Bench/Incline db/Squat/Deadlift in one day. Almost quit after squats because I really didn't feel like doing deadlifts at the end of a workout, but I stuck with it and only puked twice. Also discovered that I've been doing 1/8 squats all this time and when I forced myself to go down to true parallel, I could really feel the difference in my legs. They hurt alot more now, so I might go back to 1/8th's. Thanks for all the good advice FN, here's to broly in 06!

Heh, of course I'm not going to go back, I just wish I could. I felt like I wasn't going to make it a few times last night at the bottom, and I was doing light weight! Yeah the puking kind of sucked, especially since some of it got on the girl working next to me, but I gave her my towel so it was all good.

Yeah, I decided this time around I'm going to do it right. Worked out for 8 months prior to this and made almost no gains. So I'm taking off the weights and concentrating on getting each rep right, plus cutting out some excercises so as to not overtrain again. So that means no more fancy curls, cable excercises, 4-5 different excercises per muscle, etc. Sure the schedule I'm doing now seems boring as hell, but I figure I gotta pay the dues if I want to build a proper base.

Tell that to my friend/workout partner. He INSISTS on doing heavy weight that he can't handle, because he knows I'm there to spot him. So he gets up the first two reps, then has me practically rowing the other 8 for him. That's another thing, he does 10 reps for 5 sets, and he's trying to do heavy weight? He won't listen to me though, and I'm not really in a position to dispense advice since I'm a noob too. What am I going to say, "I read this thing on OT that says you should do..."? I'm afraid we're starting to be one of "those guys" in the gym though, the ones that bench together. Embarrassing.

remember your diet is probably the most important part in gaining muscle mass.

Thanks. I'm going to actually count calories this time around instead of being lazy about it. Last time I only made sure to get the proper amount of protein, but didn't bother with cals/fat. So I had no idea if I was getting enough food.

    good work son

oh and ditch your 'workout partner' he sounds like a total douche

if he asks, say you don't want the other boys at the gym to think you're taken... should scare him off.

    Different partner FTW.

Tell him you're at least doing background research on lifting and what he's doing isn't good.

My buddy comes with me sometimes only when I do upper body. I really prefer going solo though, no one to babysitn or slow you down.

Same here, when I used to workout alone, I finished in an hour tops. Didn't waste any time. My buddy on the other hand gets up after every set and walks around for like 5 minutes, staring in the mirror, getting a drink, whatever. If we didn't workout late at night, we would have been squashed long ago by one of the behemoths at the gym for hogging the bench for too long. Plus it irks me because I'm very much routine oriented and exact in the time I wait between sets and the total time I take to workout. I'm realizing that having a workout partner is overrated and I much preferred it when I was solo.

Hmm, good idea. Perhaps I should let him catch me blowing some guy in the suana?

I wanted to do it squats/deads/bench but my partner was all about "chest day" so we did that first. I would have stuck with it anyway and left him solo, but then I would have had to explain to his mother why her son was crushed under 135lbs of weight. Then I'd have to explain to her husband why his wife died of embarrasment at her sons lack of brolyness. Then I would have had to explain to HIS mother...you see where I'm going with this? It's not worth it.

Define "heavy weight," but yeah that shit is only good for egos and injuries. Tell him he'd get a lot more out of it if he lowered the weight and actually lifted it himself.

Been there done that, a PT came over and showed me how to spot at the hips with just your hands, it actually feels alot more secure.
