I'm Looking to build my first computer. I want to spend around $500-600. This only has to include the computer, not monitor or anything. I will be using this computer for photo editing with photoshop cs, and for internet browsing. any help would be appriciated.

A $500 machine can be tricky, these days it's hard to build one in that amount of money that's even remotely upgradeable.

Still, I'll do it for ya.

I'd personally recommend an Asus A7N8X-X motherboard, a Sempron 2500+, a Corsair Value Select 1GB PC3200 dual kit, a GeForce 6600GT, and a good quality power supply.

You can get a computer for that much for pretty cheap but you won't be able to do that much hard core gaming or any CAD stuff, if that's what you need. If not, look into getting a mobo with on-board sound and video. Most likely it'll come with on-board lan too. Your next big thing is a processor and ram.

    RAM

All that is pretty much the low end of decent. Its 1g of memory with a 939 processor (so its open for upgrades.) All that for about 300 bucks. You'll spend another 100 or so on additional stuff ya want.

Hate to burst your bubble, but that motherboard is crap. JetWay makes some of the nastiest boards on the market, and that shit-pile is no exclusion.

He'd be much better off with a Chaintech VNF4/Ultra, 6600-vanilla combo.

I've heard nothing but excellence about the VNF4/Ultra, and I finally built my friend a $700 machine with one of those boards and a Gigabyte 6600GT.

Let's just say that it's one of the best boards I've used to date. And I'll definitely consider Chaintech as a viable option moreso than in the past.
