my first car was a 305 1980camaro, damn good first cars. My second car was a 72 c10 with a punched out 396, built to around 360 horse, duno the torque. High fuckin stall in it and a shift kit, 410s, black with flames, all for 900 bucks. the bird was 200 with minimal rust. Pretty decent condtion. I reccommend gettin a 5.0 if you can keep your foot out of it. They are cheap and easy to mod. But get your ass in trouble quick.

My first car wasn't fast, or glamorous, but it was ultra reliable and in pristine condition.

It was a 1991 AMC Concord DL, complete with woodgrain, well optioned, 41,000 original miles, for $900. I actually really liked that car and regretted selling it to a friend of mine who trashed it, but at least I made money off of it after a year of ownership.

I think you can find a nice car like a Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Firebird, Chevrolet Lumina Z/34, or something along those lines for $5k.

They're pretty fast too, my stock '89 'notch ran a 14.5 @95mph on worn p225-60 street tires. Later, when I tore down the engine I found out that I was running with 6 bent pushrods :ugh2:

Oh yea, I paid 3800 for mine without a spot of rust :)

i got my 5.0 for a strait up trade at a dealership. I hadda 93 v6 cougar with a blown headgasket and an almost smoked tranny...it still moved at least. Mine is a rustbucket...it was sposed to go up yesterday to have the quarters replaced, door handels shaved and the cowl grafted on...but we got a helacious snow storm and i oculdnt make it the 15 miles with the car.

you can get a 5.0 for a few grand, then do the basic mods like K&N, shifter, gears, subframes, springs, TB, mass air, pulleys, etc with your leftover $$$.

    Cheap light classic muscle = late 60s/early 70s Mopar A-body. (Dodge Dart/Demon, Plymouth Valiant/Scamp/Duster).

My first car was a 74 Plymouth Scamp with 49k original miles for $1200. Try to find a 73 or earlier with a V8 (318, 340, or 360). Starting in 74, the engines started getting detuned to meet emissions reqs.

You could probably get a early 90s L98 or LT1 for about 5k. And you could show the 5.0 boys whos boss. :big grin:
