I started on a katana 600. It was a great starter bike and I sold it for what I payed for it.

i'm just gonna say get whatever you feel comfortable with. many many people will tell you to get a 250 or something small to learn, but whatever, my R6 was my first bike, and i took the MSF 2 months after I got my bike, and I've never been down :o

however there ARE plenty of fools who got 600's this past year and totalled them..do what you think is safe for you. i tend to know my limits...
