It's different for everyone, find a bike you are comfortable on and go from there.

I personally started on a 600rr, no license and no prior experience, but it's not the same for everyone

I felt that bike was much better fit for me then a 250cc

Take the MSF course. Buy gear first. Then buy bike. I would go 600 but I know many will argue.

Honda or Yamaha, that's my personal opinion, I don't like suzuki or kawasaki's

cool thing bout the ninja 250 is the resell, you can probably pick it for a grand (used) and resell it for a profit guaranteed two weeks later once you get 'sick' of it

same cant be said bout the 600's, yeah they do retain their value fairly well if you buy used also but the resell rate and value wont be as good as the 250

    I agree with FSU Rider

I started with a 600 too, but that isnt right for everybody and many people on here will argue against it.

Try sitting on a few different sizes and brands to see what feels good to you.

Maybe take the msf course first and/or try riding a friends bike

I bought my 600rr for $5,500 in October of 2004

I sold it last week for $5,350 in May of 2006

    Every motorcycle retains it's value

Once you get your license dealerships will let you test drive bikes, hell even private sellers might let you test ride with a deposit or a license present

Well in Florida they let you.....I'm in SoCal right now for work, but i would imagine if you walked in with a money order to cover damages and a license, it would be hard for them to say no

Good call. Find something post '00 that has medium amount of miles on it. Get use to the bike, and if you decide that it's for you...sell it and use the cash as a downpayment on something nice.

You do live in PA so it's possible, but you are looking at an average mileage of 15K on a 6 year old bike

Granted they ride a little over 2,000 miles ever summer....

I put 12,000 miles on my bike in about 15 months......Year round riding season here......:o
