I was bored last night and was playing with full manual, built in flash, and manually setting the white balance. I learned that you can adjust how the flash is picked up with full manual, only I lose the background. :) Still fun though.

I can't remember the settings I used from picture to picture. Is there a program for OS X that'll connect to the finder and show me the EXIF data of a picture selected?

i haven't found anything for OSX & finder that shows the exif but you can download EXIF Viewer and it will do the job.

    and keep practicing.

Onboard flash is just about the best way to exacerbate every undesirable feature about a person's face. Hell, it even made that babies skin look bad, and everyone knows babies have great skin.

If you must use it, diffuse it.

I was trying to figure out a way to diffuse it but couldn't find anything quickly and didn't feel like looking around the house for a solution. That's when I learned I could adjust the aperture/time to sort of compensate for no diffusion.

I really want an external flash but don't have $300 to blow on it.

Which is better: Vivitar 285 or Sigma 500 SuperDG? The Sigma is only about $50 more.

As long as it puts off light and can bounce, it's fine. I'd save the money and go with the vivitar, and then work on making a basic strobist kit: flash, stand, umbrella bracket with hotshoe, umbrella, ebay trigger and some color correction gels.

The diffuser was for his onboard flash, which proper bounce cards wont work on.
