I'm not very happy with it, but I think the lighting had a lot to do with it. I started out around 7:30 and this was taken right before 9:00, should have gotten this one first and played around later.

    Critique? Advice for next time?

I changed it from a 32 channel to an 8 so I could export it as a JPEG, but the full-sized JPEG on my background is an 8 and looks quite a bit more clear than that.

Low lighting, shot at 1/20 and 1/100 were two entirely different pictures.

I am not saying this picture is the bomb diggity, just trying to get some feedback on it like what to change next time, etc.

but there doesn't seem to be anything that looks to benefit from the different exposures...

In the original shrunken-down version you can't even tell there's a bench out there.

looks like your camera moved between shots too.

also, whats the point of HDR if the trees are still black?

It was very improv, I didn't plan on attempting some pics to compose HDR, so I didn't have it on a tripod so there was very likely some movement.

I had the slowest shutter speed down at 1/20, I guess for the trees to come through maybe something even slower would be necessary if I were to repeat the same scenario again, although this time it wouldn't have helped because those less than 1/20 would have probably come out pretty damn blurry.

If you're not using a tripod or have the camera steadied somehow, combining the pictures is always going to look awful.

yeah tip: dont bother merging images unless you use a tripod.

dano are you using photoshop or photomatix to merge them?

Using a tripod helps but is not necessary. Here is a pic without a tripod. Looks pretty good imo.

Edit: Took the pic down because its dano's thread.

yeah, a tripod is necessary. Unless you like having TWO horizons in your image. :ugh::ugh::ugh:

That could be made so much better if you spent 5 seconds to align everything in photoshop and crop the edges. :hs:
