Im having a problem with Firewire, which I use to capture video from my camcorder. I press PLAY on the cam, and start capturing, and after some time it just disconnects. As soon as I press STOP on the camera, it connects back up again. I thought it was a problem with a camera... but then I tried it with another, and got the same result.

    Any ideas?

    Two ideas:

    1. Loose plug that gets moved back into place when you press on the camera.

    2. Firewire buffer overflow due to the computer bogging down while importing the video data.

It cannot be the plug... the camera is stationary, and rock solid on the table.

As for the buffer overflow... I doubt thats the problem either. I ahve a 3ghz P4, 2Gb ram, ati x850 video card (256mb).

    Bump! Anyone?
Could this be the problem of the actual controller? I got a PCI card with USB/Firewire off ebay.

I dont remember, it was just some random card I got off ebay. My mobo doesn't have it.

I was just trying to capture video off my camera.... about 10 minutes into the capture it disconnects (video keeps playing). I press stop on the camera, and the connection is back. Its not the camera for sure.... since I got 2, and they all do the same thing.

I only got one of each, and these damn cables are like $20.

Looks like I gotta take a trip down to radioshack.

I was just confused that it acts so strangely. I mean if it randomly disconnected and that was it, it would be pretty straight forward, but the fact that it reconnects when I do something on the camera, is really odd.
