What Jumper setting should i have for the Harddrive when using a firewire external enclosure?

    -Slave.
    -CableSelect.
    -Master.
    -Master w/Slave present.

I have a WesternDigital 120GB using FIREWIRE connection (6pin to 4pin) to the ilink (s400) on my sony laptop.

I have it on CableSelect.. but it keeps disconnecting and its buggin' the crap out of me. So anyone know whats the real deal behind this?

Check if the enclosure's power adapter is plugged in...the 4 pin firewire is unpowered, if you're using an adapter from a 6 pin on the enclosure to a 4 pin on the comp, im pretty sure it wont work unless theres a power adapter on the enclosure

i agree with GlassUser.. I'm thinking is my POS sony. I even bought a belkin cable to make sure it wasn't my cheap ass firewire line. altho it helped.. its still comes on and off at times.. >.< cuz i restarted the comp and its dere. with out ever touching the enclosure. yes of course there is power adapter. or else what would power the harddrive?
