I need to get into something that I don't remember the password for. Every so once and a while my firefox messes up and randomly asks me to switch user profiles at the desktop. I need to get back to my other one. How the hell can I do that?

More than likely when that happens it is because FF crashes and there is still a RO lock on the profile.

Try the fixes on the page above. Ctrl+Alt+Del then killing the FF process usualy works for me.

Weird, I haven't had that problem with Firefox on Linux since .9ish.
