how can you tell a real firehawk from an imitation or is there such a thing as imitation? theres a kid at my school w/ an 02' firehaw but on the middle of the rear bumper says trans am. he also had an slp package but the exhaust looks stock? he got an aftermarket hood w/ multiple slits on it, seems to be functional. he paid $13-16k for it, oh and how fast are they stock? thanks

Hmm, the firehawk was an an slp package, if thats what he menat, and it came with an upgraded exhaust for the standard 345 HP package. Does the hood look like this? http://pic4.picturetrail.com/VOL781/3176666/6474838/83268717.jpg

Note the firehawk badge, and the 2 bigger inlets instead of the standard WS6's 4 smaller ones (only really 2 afaik, the small plastic lip makes it look like 4 inlets.)
I'm guessing that by aftermarket hood it has the firehawk hood on,and he says that it is aftermarket. To put an aftermarket hood on a Hawk is retarded. It should have badges on the side, and the back right below the tailight. It could have the SLP firehawk spoiler, which is like the firebird spoiler, except it sticks out more, and iis a bit higher, and has a lip to it, and a brake light along the whole spoiler. It could also have the standard High Rise Trans Am Spoiler as well. It should have these wheels- http://pic4.picturetrail.com/VOL781/3176666/6474838/83268730.jpg

    It will look like these:

If it is just a WS6, it will look more like these- http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=LS1+WS6&btnG=Search

As far as how fast they are, with a very skilled driver, and good traction, etc, they are possible to break into the 12's. But not likely, especially with some high school kid driving in a brand new car. They come with 345 HP and should dyno around 320 to the wheels. Most LS1's dyno right at 300 at the wheels, sometimes a tad higher, but Firehawks have an aftermarket lid, which is at least 10 hp there, and they have a great flowing exhaust as well.

Any firehawk nuts feel free to add/correct. :)

the wheels looks like those with the hawk center cap but it wasn't chromed. and the hood was different. it has at least 3 or 4 larger slits going down both sides and the slits are shaped sorta like the headlights. the kid said the spoiler was a standard trans am spoiler? he paid 13-16k for it, isn't that dirt cheap for a firehawk considering how limited they were?

yes that is extremely cheap.. how many miles are on it? They were about $35-40k brand new for an 02 - what year was his? he might have had a pre LS1 hawk

The firehawk starts off as a trans am or a formula, the option is available on both cars. The exhaust is really quiet, its gona have dual tips on each side, it should say firehawk on the doors where the "trans am" or "formula" badges would be on a non firehawk car. Also it will have firehawk on the back bumper where the WS6 badge would normally be.

Look for "WU6" on the RPO sticker located on the driver's door. That will tell if its a true 'hawk or not. Good luck!
