since my other thread is so cluttered, i'll just let that one die and post new pics here.

first it was blue, i stripped the blue paint

then i stripped the blue paint, and painted it red. after painting it red, i decided i didn't like it like that, so i stripped the paint again.

after i stripped the paint, i refinished the laminate wood, and added some polyurethane. this is what it looks like now, and this is how i'll keep it.

next, i'm getting the bolt jewelled and polished, polishing all internal trigger parts, and possibly buying a Green Mountain 20" SS fluted barrel.

I don't understand why anyone would cover up that laminate w/ that blue paint in the first place. :ugh:

To each his own I guess. Looks good man.

yea, i don't really like the pink either, but that's what it came with, and i'm fine w/ it. at some point, i'll sell it and buy the same style stock, but with a blue and gray laminate.

I'm glad you gave into my peer pressure and took off the gay red.

The laminated stock = sex on that gun.

it started as a 10/22 stainless, but everything's custom except the receiver, bolt and trigger housing.

That looks good. Good choice taking the paint off. I think it looks good that way.

What's a good 10/22 out of the box for local matches and whatnot?

i don't think i'd use any stock 10/22 in matches. you can always get a 10/22, and buy a new barrel and stock, and then sell the factory barrel and stock to get some of your money back.

What is a good stock 10/22 to start with though and then modify later?

I think they only come in wood/blue or synthetic/stainless.

errr, I mean what is a good bone stock 10/22 rifle to start with and then modify, I wasn't talking about the actual stock, lol.

They are pretty much all the same. Only differences are the stock, finish and barrel length.

most 10/22s are too small for most adults. i'd go to walmart and see if they have the Wally World special. it's a stainless receiver and barrel on wood stock w/ a 22" barrel. it's about 220 i think, but it's a good rifle to shoot until you modify it, and when you do modify it, you can sell the stock and barrel for a lot more than what you'd get for regular stock/barrels, so you'd make back more of your money.
