It's illegal to discharge a firearm in the Everglades, except during gator hunting season, and gator hunting is incredibly stupid.

It's hard to describe, they use these long poles which have this pike attached to the end with some sort of firearm behind it and they pull right up next to a gator in their airboat and shove the pike through the top of the gators head and they pull the trigger... it's really inhumane and disgusting. I don't like PETA but whenever gator hunting season starts they're out there protesting and I totally agree with them.

So basically the pike is just to hold them in place while they shoot them? Doesn't seem very sporting to me.
