I'm in need of a little bit of help. Does anyone know where the current desktop wallpaper you are using is stored?

A better question, would be this: My moms iMac at home has a picture of a pet that passed away set as a background...and I have NO idea where that picture is at.

Can anyone lead me to info to retrieving this photo?

    Thanks :wiggle:

What OS are you using? 10.3? 10.4? So, I am guessing that the wallpaper of the pet is one of your own images? In that case, go to Desktop preferences (Control click on desktop, "Change Desktop background" and then on the left, at the end of the list of folders, should be a folder, like... say, "Pictures of my pets" (this will be the folder of where the custom image is located) so then it's just a matter of finding the folder.

The last folder on the list is a custom folder. Normally it would say "Choose Folder" (and may still do). When you "Choose folder" you are simply choosing a folder in your Home folder, and then choosing one of your pictures.

So, to sum it up, check the preferences, check the last folder on there (except for "Choose Folder") and search for it.

On Mac OS X 10.4 I can tell you that the Apple wallpapers are in Hard Disk>Library>Desktop Pictures.

    Hope this helps.

If you can't find the original file location, just temporarily move all your icons off the desktop, hide the dock and take a screenshot. problem solved. :)

Currently running 10.3.4 on my moms iMac. She hasn't changed the walpaper since I set it up for her almost two years ago now...and I just want a backup of that photo now, just in case. :hsd:

I might have to resort to the "screenshot idea" afterall. :) I did think of that earlier, but, for some reason I like to make things difficult. :wiggle:

Thanks fellas, anyone else know something?

There are two methods of screenshots
I think if you hold shift, it creates a file, if no shift, then it copies to clip board.
Going off memory here, could be wrong about the button, it could be option.

You copied it to the clip board only.

Well, as it's a custom wallpaper it should show it's surrounding folder on the desktop folder preference pane.
