Any such thing under 600 mark? Dont really care about whats on it long as it has a serial port/printer port and XP professional... Dell has models that fit the catagorey but their little pricey imho

Does it have to be a *new* laptop, or would buying a used one that runs XP Pro decently be an option? You might have better luck going that route...

    Maybe an older T-series Lenovo/IBM?

The Dell Latitude D830 I'm working on has one, and it was bought in 2007.

I use an old Dell Inspiron with a p3 for terminal stuff... it boots Xubuntu and Windows XP, heh.

Meh. For me, the USB->DB9 adapter is fine. I like the fact that I can just grab my Lenovo S10 and the cable and carry them into the datacenter as needed. Netbook portability for those situations > *.
