I want something very much like this http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4244346 but I'm hoping to find it for less somewhere.

I would like it to have/be:
    electronic lock
    Concealed hinges
    fire rated
    Around $600

Unless anyone can find me anything better, I'm just going to get the walmart special.

Thanks for all the help, guys :wiggle:

What do you like about the concealed hinges? Exposed hinges don't really take away from the security of the safe and the door won't open as widely with concealed hinges. Dick's has the 550 lb Stack On fire safes on sale pretty often for $500. The hinges aren't concealed and they don't have electronic locks but they're fire proof :). Besides that you can find some killer deals at the end of hunting season.

What he said about concealed hinges. Theres bolts all around the door on everyside so they do not contribute to anything but aesthetics and limit the doors range of opening.

I checked into the electronic locks before getting my safe and from talking to a couple locksmiths decided I didn't want a safe with an electronic lock. Seems more prone to break, although a UL rated lock is a step in the right direction.

ah excellent. I had heard that the exposed hinges made the safe much easier to break into.

And as much as I'd like the safe to be, well... a safe, I still want it to be convenient or I won't use it as much. If I can just punch in some keys instead of havin to go through the whole combo, I'll be much more likely to use the safe.

I think you guys just talked me into this safe :) When is the end of hunting season? I haven't been hunting in a decade or more... I'm assuming you mean deer and elk...

Thanks a lot for your help, guys. Great, as always.

That was my second choice, but I couldn't figure out where all my handguns would go nicely, and I'm pretty sure I'll expand past that pretty quick. Plus I figure it's a lifetime investment, so i might as well splurge a little.

Be careful with the Stack-On from Dick's.....we've had some problems with them...mostly the electronic but sometimes the mechanicals as well

Supposed to be getting some American Security in sometime and maybe a few Liberty's around Christmas

Yeah, good luck! My dad has had a Browning one for years, it's pretty good size one but not enormous. We've only had to move it about 3 times but it's real PITA to move around!

Also, one thing you need to consider (depending on your home) is whether the floor ccan take it. If it's on the bottom floor of a slab house it's no big deal but if you want to put it upstairs or if you have a crawlspace, consider the amount of load you are putting on that 3-4 sq ft of floor with all your guns/ammo in there...

Very nice. I can't wait to get one. It'll be like a barby doll for me. I get to dress it up with all kinds of guns!

So you just put it at the top of the stairs and let it go, right?

Kept me and my brother from going in the room when we were kids. And if someone tries to break in the alarm will go off anyways. And you can hear the alarm for blocks
