We constantly hear people bitch about fighters pay, but this article really helps to shed some light on the additional money fighters make. This also doesn't take into account pay they could make from doing seminars or sign autographs at shows, etc.

I always knew these guys did well when it comes to non fight pay, but I was even surprised to see the amount of sponsorship money these two examples got for one fight.

in relation to the amount of profit that the UFC generates from arena sales, PPV sales, merchandise, etc

I am not one of the people that thinks all of the fighters deserve millions of dollars per fight, I know the UFC pays a lot for advertising, but even still...when a guy comes in and only make 5k/5k or 10k/10k, it is pretty much a joke

Now I finally understand why Tim Sylvia thinks he's worth anything.

who knows how much boxing promotions make? the bottom line appears to be that compared to other "combat athletes" the UFC's fighters are doing well.

:werd: if it weren't for that, I'd give the article more credit, although this is stuff that most people who follow the sport and players salaries (especially those who have beef with it) should already know.

Also, I thought the $60k was only given out since the last event. Before that everyone got $20k for fight/sub of the night. :dunno:

It has been gradually increasing over the past year or so.

  12. about 5k an event.

The other reason nobody is paying small guys anything is because there's no union.

Everyone in MLB makes bank because there's a players union that forces a minimum wage (among other things), which does a hell of a lot.

Owners/managers do a great job of making the public think the greediest, most spoiled people in the game are the players, but the truth is that the players get fucked over every way they can unless they band together, refuse to play, etc etc, and demand the money that is made on THEIR backs.

Kevin backed up his statements with data from the NSAC and with people who know what fighters are actually making(their agents). I don't see any reason to doubt the article.

People only bitch about the UFC pay because its the UFC and its cool to do. EliteXC, IFL and apparently undercard fighters for boxing shows get paid shit too.

while getting sponsors is great- i really think if somebody has earned the big shot even as their first fight the minimum to fight in the ufc should be at LEAST 15K if not 20K to show + win/ko/sub/fightofnight bonuses.

The saddest part of that article is that EliteXC might be gone soon

There's been some damn good fights on those promotions

That's the way it is. You don't make money from the organization itself but from sponsors.

When I was racing, even if I win that shit wouldn't pay 25% of my one travel to the race. I got my money from sponsors, doing demo's etc...

Kevin Iole has a strong UFC bias so I'd take those comments with the appropriate amount of salt.

    oh, okay cool

because if EliteXC was gone, we'd be without Mauro Ranallo and Stephen Quadros (again), who are the best duo in MMA calling
