Finally got to shoot my S&W Model 586 .357 . I inherited the gun when I was 16 after my dad passed away. I never got a chance to shoot it until this semester at college when a couple of my friends took me to the range. This gun kicks ass, and definately packs a big punch. It used to have the wood grips, but I put the rubber ones on because I had to regrip after every shot with the wood grips. I've been to the range 3 times now to shoot it and my groupings are getting pretty good. Im planning on buying an xd-9 next week for concealed carry. Any tips or pointers for a noob?

a friend of mine has a 629. another has a model 19. the 19 is a 1957 vintage piece, in pristine shape. the trigger is like nothing i've ever fired before. it's a blast to shoot.

If you live on campus I'd just make sure no one knows about the gun and make sure to leave it in your car when on campus. Buy a good holster and a gun belt, other than that pick a gun you're comfortable and accurate with. Most of the polymer guns out there are comfortable to carry (assuming you don't go with a 6 inch barrel with add-on magwells), which includes the compact XD9 (4in) and compact glocks of all variations. I'm just as accurate with my 40 S&Ws as I am with my 9mm, so I tend to carry 40s instead of 9mm, but to each his own if you're just starting out shooting you might want to stick with a 9mm (cause its easier on your wallet). Have fun and learn your local CCW and defense laws.

Leaving a gun in a vehicle on a college campus isn't very smart. Colleges are typically among the highest rated vehicle break in areas in the state. Should that happen, he wouldn't be able to report it without getting kicked out of school.

my campus has a shooting range. you have to have a special license from the school to carry a handgun on campus grounds. and it must be cased and unloaded.

    oh and :bigthumb:
    nice looking revolver.

well, technically I live in an off campus fraternity house. But, my girlfriend lives in a house within a block of the campus, however its not considered on campus, so having guns there is fine.
