It took me a while - last May, my one rep max was 225. Since then, I started lifting pretty seriously, got my diet in check (edit: eating more calories and high protein foods), and I've been taking basically whey protein and CEE. Yesterday I was able to do 145x8, 185x8, 205x8, and 225x8. I haven't gone for a 1RM in a while, although I did 245x3 about a month ago.

Did 205x5 205x5 215x3 225x3 and 235x2 today. I was pretty excited. I should have got the last one for 235 though. I'm hoping in 3 weeks for 245x3.

If you have a workout partner here's something you might want to try, from the EFS Q&A

Why are you bothering with the 185 and 205 sets? If I were you I'd go 135x12, 225x8, 245x(you'll probably get about 4-5 reps), then see if you can get 275 up a few times and right after do a drop set to 185 and rep that out.

Honestly, I surprised myself - I thought I'd be able to do like 5-6 maybe. Now that I know I can do 8, next time I'll probably warm up with 135 like KIDRR said, then rep out 205, 225, and see how many times I get get 245 up.

When I warm up for a one rep max, for pretty much any exercise, I've been doing a set of 8, then set of 4, then a 3-2 set, and on the 4th try to do the 1RM.
