WOO HOO, ive only been able to do it a little at a time and man, i guess im slow cause there seemed to be a learning curve on everything, it all took a lot of playing around. So my first 5 are done. 35gr H4895 and 200gr Sierra RN's. Im so happy they fit in the chamber and eject and load fine.

    my set up.

the thrower that came with my RCBS kit doesn't really throw all that accurately, there are better throwers out there, but I don't care enough/load enough to buy a better at this point, someday I will though.

how accurate is it. Usually this one is about +- about .1gr. Which is accurate enough for me not to weigh every charge thrown, but i am just staying about .5gr below max charge. I just get 5 goodies in a row, load em up, and check every 10 rds. At least thats what im going to do once i get set on a specific powder and charge.

I can't remember off the top of my head, but it really comes down to what powder I use. Larger extruded powders like RL22 don't meter for shit, but smaller extruded's like Varget run through it like water. I can usually get Varget to under .2 or so, then I just trickle the rest in.

yea, thats true, is it really that important to get that .1. I can see fixing .2. . But im running H4895, which is the same size as Varget, so it flows through fine.

are you that close to max charge. Im staying .5gr away from it, since im not exactly entering any comps with my .35 levergun. Plus im not that good with iron sights yet.

Working up loads was fun and a complete bitch at the same time, because you have to try to shoot each load under similiar conditions, with as little user error as possible. I'm also extremely impatient when it comes to letting the barrel cool, so that got annoying real quick.

yea, im more shooting for fun and money saving, so extreme accuracy isnt too important, its more just see which of the two powders is more accurate for me. Plus my iron sight work at 100yds is pretty bad, so that doesnt help.:bigthumb:

So these are the first 5 rounds you've loaded and you're starting half a grain below the listed max load in the manual? You should NEVER start above the minimum load listed in a manual, most reccomend starting 10% below the minimum or atleast 2 or 3 grains or so. Every rifle is different, a light load in one rifle may blow primers in another or vice versa.

woah there, guess i wasnt clear.

I started about 2.5 grains below max, at the min start load. I was saying the closest im GETTING to the max load is going to .5gr less.

Dont worry, i read through the Modern reloading manual twice, and the nosler manual once.:bigthumb: thanks for the concern though.

you should set up some boxes and list on them the different range of grain loads that you are getting, then use your loader, pin the cap, and toss them into the corresponding box. that way you have a bunch of totally different grains and you can see which loads are more or less accurate and what works best for you.

    just a thought

right now im just doing 5rds of each load building up to .5gr< max load. Then ill do the same with the other powder and see which has better accuracy. Right now accuracy will be had to measure simply because im not great at iron sights yet.

is 5 rounds enough to see which has better accuracy? id think more along the lines of 20 rounds each :dunno:
