A friend of mine wanted me to sell this box version of Final Cut Studio Academic for him, I was debating on installing it and playing with it. Is it pretty impossible to teach yourself if you've never messed with video editing software before?

Relative to other professional apps they're fairly intuitive if you ask me. It'll come with a training DVD and manuals, and there are about a million tutorial vids on creative cow and youtube.

If you're interested, keep it and play with it. Do be advised though, edu versions aren't eligible for upgrade pricing.

I found it very easy to learn, don't be afraid.

Yeah it's like any other non linear editing system...it's not going to be easy to pick up but the more time you spend with it the easier ANY editing software will become so that's not a bad thing.

I use Final Cut and Avid depending on whether I'm at home or at work.

I learned Final Cut Express on my own and after taking a Multimedia in Business class, other aspects started making more sense. Sadly, I could have picked up a tutorial book and learned it just as easily.

I took a couple week-long fcp classes and it's funny because I learned about 20 times more in one day on the job then I ever did in the classroom. Also the books and classes seemed to be way more focused on working within the program and spend zero time on things like logging and capturing footage. How are you supposed to work on anything if you don't know how to get it into the computer?
