So I went to buy a Tiffen Circular Polarizer today... and the guy at the store convinced me to spend about 40% more and get a Hoya.

Did I get hosed, or are Hoya filters really that much better??

I think the salesman just earned himself a 40% commision. I'm curious as to what was his argumement for not buying the Tiffen?? I've been using Tiffen filters as a professional for many, many years and I've never had a problem with them.

...which you will never be able to tell the difference unless you shoot 1000's of shots under extreme conditions. Still, at least you have a good filter.

I take it the Tiffen lens is good? I'm thinking of getting the 2x telephoto lens for my Canon A80. The 3x Optical just doesn't cut it most of the time. I think a 6x would be about perfect.

Can't say if their lenses are good or not. I don't have any experience with them, just their filters. Tiffen has been in the photographic filter business for a long time but I think they are fairly new to the lens business which is a completely different animal.

Well, what's a good telephoto lens to look at for the Canon A80? The lens directly from Canon I would assume? I really want at least a 2x to make it a 6x optical zoom for it.

dadams312, you should check the dp review forums and do a search. For my G2, I want a Olympus B-300 (discontinued) or the TCON-17 (said to be an improved version) but what works for my camera might not work for yours.
