I've been doing some reading, and I've seen that UV filters really do nothing for a DSLR as opposed to what they used to do for film. I'm not sure if that's a load of shit or not, but I do know that cheap filters can degrade image quality and make a nice lens pointless. You guys shoot with UV filters?

I've noticed when shooting lights, they smudge bad with UV filters and are nice star bursts without the filters.

I usually keep it on just to protect my camera.

It helps to keep them clean.

That's what I'm hearing. Just wondering if the more expensive UV filters are worth the money in terms of preventing any sort of clarity

I use B+W UV filters, I haven't seen any deteriotion in quality.

I've wondered about this too. I keep a UV on for protection, but is it even worth it? When I shoot widefield space pics I usually take them off because they fog up faster then the lens does and they cause some noticable light bounce in long exposures.

I carry a CPL for some of my lenses. I've yet to get a 77mm CPL because it's so god damn expensive. I have UV filters on some of the lenses I use often because a broken UV filter is desireable over a broken front lens element.
