So I have a camera that I have left some film in (mid roll) for about a year in a dark cupboard. I dont care for the photos on it, is it ok to keep shooting or should i rip it out and start again?

Also is there a guide to identifying film by its winding marks? nfi what is left in there :hs:

The film in there should be fine. I'd go out, snap a few pics, finish the roll and go get it developed, there might be some cool shit on there you forgot about.

After you get the film processed it should say the brand of film on the negatives right by the winding holes.

the problem is the ISO of the film already in there, could be 50,100 or 400 :dunno:

Just assume it's 400 and if you're really concerned bracket the pics you have left on the roll, it should say on the roll after you pull it from the camera what speed it is.

assume its 400 and get near black pics if its 50/100? I think i'd rather rip it out and start again in that case. Just thought someone might have seen a guide to identifying brand/type of film by the indicator marks.

How the fuck are you going to tell by the marks if the film is already in the camera?

    You have 3 options:

    1. Fuck the roll of film and the pictures on half of it.
    2. Get half the roll developed and waste half a roll.
    3. Assume ISO 400, bracket your pics and get the roll of film developed gaining the pictures already on there, and possibly the rest of the roll.

What's it matter if you get a few black frames on the half a roll, you were just going to rip it out anyway and ruin it, why not at least guess and maybe get something?

    1. fuck your bullet points
    2. I only have a few types of film so if I could work out the brand I will know the iso
    3. there is a fucking window you look through to see the wind markings
    4. all of my film has different markings so maybe there is a guide somewhere
    5. the film only has a couple of shots on it so why not use it
    6. ??
    7. fuck you

1.Look at how mnay pics you have on the counter
    2. Wind the roll up
    3. Open up the back
    4. Read film
    5. Reload film
    6. click x times
    7. take pics
    8. $$$$$$$
    9. proift

If you wind it carefully enough, you'll hear the end of the film drag, which is your key to stop winding.

Unless it automatically winds the film. Another problem is you may not line it up exactly as before, so you might want to go an extra click or two to prevent losing those images.

If you're thinking about tossing it, just develop what you've got on the roll, and scrap the rest. buy new film, go back to shooting.
