This list is really hard to choose from cause if you look at it from the outside, its simple and a lot of people would pick Crocop, Kazuo Misaki, GC, etc. for being the winners of their tournaments.

But then theres so many factors that comes into play, like Crocop getting the "easy" road to the OWGP Finals or Kazuo losing the pre-finals but ending up in the finals, Paulo Filho could easily be the fighter of the year if he didn't pull out of this tournament due to an injury and other factors.

And then there are so many fighters that aren't that known or fight on smaller scale shows like Urijah, Franca, and so on that get the recognition that they deserve so people will never know about their accomplishments (as of 2006).

And then people would argue that some of the fighters haven't fought any "top 10" fighters, like the winners of the K-1 Heroes tournaments such as GC and/or Akiyama which doesn't mean they're not good fighters but people won't give them the recognition that they deserve even though they earned it. Or with Shinya Aoki, sure he made his fighters look like noobies in his last 2 Pride fights but he clearly showed that he was lacking in the stand-up portion and that will only hurt him when he fights Melendez.

Dunno, I just can't vote for this one because there are too many factors for me to even comprehend.

I know Fedor didn't fight much this year, but even if he didn't fight at all, he'd still be fighte of the year. I don't like your poll, and I DONT LIKE YOUR FACE! Just kidding. Seriously though :squint:

From your list, I'm going to say Barnett because of all the fights he won and ass that he kicked. My personal choice would be Shogun based on the fact that he got a dislocated elbow and ~8 months later was back and beat RANDLEMAN like it was nothing.

I'll probably have to go with Mirko because of his OWGP championship... He handed Wanderlei his worst loss EVER, and dominated Barnett in the finals (even though Barnett had just has a WAR with Nogiera it is still impressive)...

An honorable mention has to go to Anderson Silva for educating the American fans who thought guys like Franklin were indestructable...

Hughes isn't on the list so i voted for CroCop, list seems to be pride sack riding i must say. HUGHES ISN'T ON YOUR CRAPPY LIST!

of course neither is the greatest fighter there is FEDOR

so this poll just sucks really, now i wish i didn't even vote lol

(yeah i know fedor didn't fight alot this year and beating up on roid rage was sort of boring)

i'm just mad i can't vote for hughes, i'll get over it lol

Not to be an asshole but that list is pretty weak..it's all downhill after 5-6 for the most part. There are some exceptions, but most of those guys don't belong on it.

Razor Rob is good, but the opponents he has beat this year doesn't prove a lot. And why is Kawajiri there? There really should be some UFC fighters on there..do you really think Ishida has done more than someone like Liddell or Hughes? Bah.

    i voted for kang .... maybe i shouldnt have .... i should have voted for cro-cop ...
but kang would get my vote for breakout fighter of the year, as well as most improved fighter....
plus the sympathy card, he still competed after the terrible event of his fiance passing away.... plus he had a torn bicep and still fought in the bushido finals.... and he almost won !! he WOULD have won if he was healthy.

I agree that at least some UFC fighters besides just Silva should make the list... Hell, I don't like the guy, but Tim Sylvia did beat AA 2x this year which is no small feat... Liddell beat Courture and Babalu... Sherk has had a great year... Hughes beat the legend Gracie and Bj Penn.............

I'd still say you can't argue against Crocop being the top fighter this year, but this list is missing a bunch of fighters...
