That is fucked up. I wonder if its because he was dehydrated after running 10km to the gym and doing whatever shit beforehand.

who knows right now its to early to say anything. It could have been from sparring or it might have been a preexisting medical condition. People have no idea how many random things are out there that exist that can spontaneously kill you.

I had a sparring session january 5 of 2007 and an hour or two after sparring my heart rate went flying up and wouldnt go down. I found out I had a condition called wolf parkinsons white and my heart rate was stuck at 200 beats per min.

Shit if it would have happened to me during a match or a sparring session id hate to think what the headlines would read. Guy killed training for mma.

thats definately it man people just dont drop and die from sparring. It was a pre existing condition and it just randomly happened or the training was a contributing factor to it

2 physicals for his 2 mma fights didn't catch any problems. How in-depth are those?

Ripper so can you still spar? That sounds liek a shitty condition. I had a heart murmur but the doctor said I was okay for wrestling 7 years ago and I haven't checked back since.

they don't do full heart work ups for fights. you never know who has an irregular heart beat or a leaky valve etc etc.
or the guy could be jacked up on who knows what
    or just bad luck

time for em to crack him open and see what happened i guess.
it'll be interesting to hear what the actual cause was

young and in great shape don't usually = dropping dead

that sucks, ya see fat as hell fuckers every day and they don't drop dead, then some young kid who is in great shape from what that article says just collapses, damn that sucks

you hear about high school football stars in peak shape dropping dead every year. they never knew he had some heart defect that never showed up until he dropped dead mid-field.

with some of these weird conditions you cant find them unless its happening to you right then and there or if you know what your looking for. With my case it happened to me before they were heart palpitations but they wouldnt last more then a minute and it happened to me a couple of times through out the course of my life 4 - 5 tops. So when I went in to the doc they never found anything wrong with me and unless they knew what to look for they werent going to.

Im fine now I was back in the gym around march after I took some time to recover the doc said i was fine by the end of the month but I wanted to be on the real safe side with it. With some of these things you just dont know. I remember one of my freinds in grade school had a dad who had some weird heart condition that he could go at any time. they told him he might live to be 80 and never die from it or he could die in 5 mins. They found out about it accidentally while looking for something else. He ended up dieing like 8 years later.

Human bodies weird you never really know when its your time

After years or going to the top specialist at Penn State and having a mom who worked in the cardiac department of one of the country's top heart hospitals I can attest to hearing about many of these stories. He may have had a blockage in his brain forming but I would guess that is has to do with his heart. The only way to tell some of these things is by doing an ekg, echo, stress test and other various tests to find out some of these issues. I had a really weird issue that the dr's took a while to try and figure out but a simple physical would have never caught anything. Even then they dont always tell. Often times it deals with an enlarged heart, valve issues, and rhythm issues. Ripper is right because even when doing some of these tests its hard to find because the condition may only happen in the "right" set up circumstances. Without going into what they found I had all sorts of tests done, even cutting edge for the time tests and it still took years of monitoring to get a hypothesis of what was going on with me.

Same thing happened with the captain of one of the Ontario Hockey League teams (Windsor Spitfires I believe). He just dropped dead last week.

There are a lot of chemicals, hormones and shit in food nowadays. You gotta wonder if that's not hurting us.

    btw a completely uneducated guess:
it seems that its happening with fit people more than fat people because fit people have that pre existing condition that wouldve never came into play had he not pushed his body to a peak.

I don't think you'd notice a difference if you looked at the fat people dropping all of a sudden, but it's not really news when an overweight person dies suddenly.

I guess I'm considered Obese (6'2" 250), but I run 8km every other day, and go to practice 3 days a week plus an extra workout/spar, every Sunday. I suprise a lot of people with my speed and stanima, so just because you look skinny, or fat doesn't mean you're "healthy".

That is sad. RIP... I'm betting there was some kind of pre-existing heart condition or other...
