Can you take "too much" fiber? I mean, would like a tablespoon every hour be harmful at all?

I have trouble with controlling my portion sizes, and I think this might help me.

Maybe diarhea or interference with absorbtion of some nutrients at worse? Good question though.

Apparently is does interfere with the absorbtion of certain minerals.
I've always added psyllium to my protein shakes.

i add oat bran straight into my shakes as well. as long as you're active and drinking enough to keep your colon motile, it shouldnt be a problem.

It's a standard trick to kill hunger when dieting. There's some possibility of interference with meds because of how it affects digestion, so if your'e on anything prescription don't take it at the same time as the pills. Other than that, I know plenty of people who deliberately take 10-15 g of psyllium husk or benefiber with the appropriate amount of liquid as a way to keep themselves full when cutting.

There's nothing wrong with drinking only protein shakes to diet, provided you make allowances for fiber and EFAs. It's boring, but not unhealthy if you know what you're doing and why you're doing it.

what about vitamins and minerals? i guess we should live like machines, synthesized protein, powdered fiber, efa pills and your all set. lol.

i think youd gain weight in the long run. 25-30gr/fiber a day is ideal for health, but if your sucking down citrucel every hour, and not drinking at least a gallon of water a day, as well as getting adequate protein to help sustain muscle tone and growth, youll get bloated, feel worse, binge, and gain whatever weight you lost.

why not just eat healthy and in moderation?

if you think your hungry, drink something, that will quench your desire

If you're lactose intollerant...just mix yout protein shake with milk ftw.:bigthumb:

Anyway, while I wouldn't do it, I agree with Elfling that drinking protein shakes alone isn't necessarily unhealthy for short periods. Operative words being necesserily unhealthy.

btw 90 oz is just shy (~3/4) of a gallon, unless, of course, you weigh your water.

Yeah, I was too lazy to spell it out that I'm not advocating that as your standard diet. But on a PSMF or something like that, it's not SUPPOSED to be for a long long time.
