Sorry for the noob questions, I'm trying my best to read through the back threads and not ask dumb shit as I just started working out seriously for the first time in my life recently. Luckily I have good genetics and am seeing good results just from my running/pullups/pushups routine but I had a couple of questions...

    1. When doing underhand pullups or any pullups for that matter, is it better to break them off in sets, say ten reps, two sets of you max out at 20? Or is it better to just warm up and them bust out 20 until muscle failure?

    2. Similar question but for pushups. I have been alternating days of 50-60 shoulder-length pushups one day and the next day doing 50 wides and 20 diamond pushups. Should I break these up into sets as well or just go until failure for the most muscle build?

I'll preface with the fact that I'm well aware that home training without weights will only tone me to a point, but I'm just starting out and weights will come eventually when my wife and I aren't so busy. :hsd:

    Thanks in advance guys. :wavey:

read the stickies bro. If you're doing bodyweight stuff do whatever you like, it probably will end up about the same in the end. As long as you are busting your ass you'll make progress.

do multiple sets of each.. say 4 sets of 10-12 each.. if you cant hit 12 in a set, do as many as you can (say...7?), take a quick breather and finish out the set.

You can look at the old Charles Atlas stuff, that was an all body weight routine and worked for lots of people.

Why does it work better? Allow for more bloodflow, or does it just allow you to get a few more reps in?
