LONG BEACH, Calif. -- A female FBI agent accidentally shot herself in a hip Tuesday in Long Beach, an FBI spokeswoman said.

The agent suffered a "self-inflicted" wound from an "accidental discharge" from her service weapon, Laura Eimiller of the FBI said.

The agent's name was not made available, but Eimiller said she was an agent assigned to the Los Angeles field office. FBI agents carry a Glock .40-caliber or a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol, Eimiller said.

Long Beach Fire Department paramedics were sent at 1:35 p.m. to a parking lot at the World Trade Center, just north of Ocean Avenue in downtown Long Beach, where they found the 43-year-old agent suffering from a gunshot wound, said fire Capt. Mike Duree.

The agent was taken to St. Mary Medical Center "in a great amount of pain," he said.

Long Beach police referred all calls to the FBI.

parking lot... probably either removing or putting her weapon back in the holster, being a woman it was probably the 9mm sig.

Wait, so if you are trying to reholster and you feel a restriction, you just push harder right? :hsugh:

Funny, I've never shot myself with my daily carry Glock 23

It's a lot like the "get a bigger hammer" theory.

There were problems with Glocks and holsters with retaining straps because the strap would sometimes get caught in the trigger guard and as officers were shoving them in, BANG.
That's why many depts. either switched weapons or switched holsters.

Or worse she could've fallen into the 20 foot crater that the 10mm would have made in the ground.

I would not like to be shot in the hip. That sounds very unpleasant.

No one said this was an accidental discharge but the reporter who is most likely an idiot.

I think the "Not Professional Enough" reference explains squid's take on the matter just fine.
