I'll probably get some irons for it as well. I'm not shelling out the $$$ for optics right now. I just want to get this thing before the gun market gets all volatile.

    I can't believe I'm seriously considering this. :o

I've considered it, but heard feedback here and there that DPMS is making the superior gun between the two.

I'll do a build just to see how it compares. I really love the customizability of builds on the DPMS site.

Edit: Holy shit, it's $2100 for the base AR-10T.

Considered having George and crew (GAP) spin one up for you?

I don't have much experience with the 308 AR variants, but I seem to hear a lot more people bitching about their guns not running right. I've heard guys who are into them allude to the best way being just to bite the bullet and have a good smith work it over for you (which I think might be fairly affordable).

Just food for thought, going on simple hearsay.

I asked around at THR and the LR-308 B was very highly spoken of whereas other AR-10 clones or the armalite were barely mentioned. Poking around randomly online gave me about the same results on other forums where I'm not a member.

    Who is GAP?

    Nice :eek3:

They have a lot of shit in their base package that I would consider options I can add later. :hs: I could even knock down the price of my own rifle $130 by taking out the bipod stuff and getting it later.

Yeah I honestly don't play in those circles, but have heard more than a couple anecdotal stories from shooters (read: high volume match guys) who weren't happy with some of the offerings. GAP isn't the only game in town there though, you could also try Jered Joplins shop (www.patriotarmsinc.com), Noveske, and I think I heard Fulton was turning out some good stuff.

You could of course just buy the rifle and shoot it, and go from there. I'm not trying to tell you one way or the other (cause I don't know), just relaying some things I've heard. For something kinda specialized, I'd try looking for some information from people who've BTDT with these guns. In other words, not THR.

Try asking/looking over at SnipersHide, SnipersCentral, and some of the other precision rifling sites. I'm betting the quality of info you get there would be much higher.

I think it was SnipersHide or SnipersCentral that had the worst search function I've ever seen. I literally :iough: when I tried that shit.

Likely SnipersHide. Yeah, it is terrible.

A shame to, because it used to be probably one of the best places on the 'net for hardcore rifle tech.

What length tube are you running?

    Gas tube?

If I stick with DPMS, then the base rifle will determine that. A LR-308B is carbine length, the LR-308 is rifle length.

Shorter is better. I'd personally want a 20"er.

You reload, or having to buy factory?

Starting off factory but building a reloading setup.

After digging around it seems that 22" is the good optimum barrel length for .308.

Not quite as accurate but more reliable from what I've read is an FAL. Cheaper too.
