for some reason, direct link to blog doesn't work

I had to go to your photojournal then go to blog

cool shots dude, the lighting is great and the action is peak

too bad its not possible to keep the light off the background as to sort of hide the empty seats

Does the D70 give better file quality on strobes than the d300 and d3?

Yeah, the link was completely wrong, haha. Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah the attendance this year is really bad for Oil Kings. They're second last in the league so we're only getting 3-4000 per night. Still need the lights set up that way for Oilers though :sad2:

Yeah, for now. The D70 can sync with the lights up to like 1/1000 because of the electronic shutter. Can't freeze action the same way with any other camera. When the new PW's come out for Nikon, we'll FINALLY get to use "real" cameras.

Haha poor Dylan. Still using that D70.

Can you all not just get faster/stronger lights so you can use the D300?

    You'd think so.

It's a complete anomaly. I've tried everything.. using 3 profotos in a small room, overpowering ambient by like 10 stops, tried the same thing using profotos, speedotron, elinchrom, and it NEVER freezes action like the D70 does. I know technically that the shutter speed should just be the light duration, but unless those are all really slow lights, I can't fucking explain it :hsd:

I can't wait for new PW, they're taking so damn long :wtc:

    ^ that,

and the fact that it wouldn't fly to say "Hey guys, Can we have ~$15000 for new lights?" When the shit we give them is top notch anyway.. They don't really understand how much better it will be when we're using real cameras. They see what we give them, it's good, so they don't think it needs improvement.

Focus on that D70 is just incredibly horribly awful slow :(

Maybe there could just be an 'accident' that causes all the lights to esplode...

one of the guys here named Matt (I think he said he shoots out of toronto) shoots with white lightning x1600's. I asked him about blurring cause the t1 times are only like 1/600 and he said he gets it occasionally.

I'm surprised that the elinchrom give blurring too cuase I would think they would have fast t1 times

Matt Manor probably, I know him really well, shot events with him quite a few times. He gets the same ghosting but just "deals with it".. sometimes he gets shots he can't keep because of that, but says using the D300 is worth the lower keep rate, we just look at it differently I guess :dunno:

More power = longer duration. B800's are a lot faster than the B1600's. Similarly, if I was baller status, I wouldnt get anything bigger than Elinchrom 600RX's.

It depends on the light. Some have longer durations at higher power, some are opposite. I'm just praying for Pocket Wizards.

Youre right. It depends on if its bitube or not. Otherwise, all things the same, more power going through a single tube is going to take longer. The only way the 'stronger' lights are faster is because they use mutliple smaller tubes packed into one head. A 1200Ws bitube is just one monolight with two 600Ws tubes in it.
