F-bodies didn't just outrun them, they destroyed them. :o

Not to mention the F-body cars have an average of about 50% more horsepower than the ITR. Little more horsepower in auto-x does help a little

Not to mention the low to mid range torque advantage and the fact that the car is RWD, it can come out of corners faster.

Also, the driver has everything to do with auto-x. I've seen events where people in almost stock Dodge Neon's took 2nd only to a shifter-cart.

The car didn't outrun shit. The driver outran the driver in the ITR. The cars don't drive themselves. They're nothing more than different tools for the same job that you can choose depending on your own skills and preferences.

    90% driver + 10% all that other crap = auto-x

oh my fucking god!!! Someone that actually knows what he's talking about.

Seifer was trying to tell me last weekend that his stock f-body would outhandle my mk3 jetta with 12.3"/dual piston, H&R coilovers, two rear sways, no front, upper strut bar, tuned on corner scales, then taken to the skidpad for further tuning by someone that tunes suspesnion, then pimped a 1.12 lat g's.

    :dunno:

I know the driver is the key, but I'm sick of people saying F-bodies can't handle. They may not hold a skid like a Ferrari, but they don't flip over when taking a turn at 2mph like people like to insinuate.

Somehow drivers have moved in and out of those classes since '98, yet the Fbodys still win by a LARGE margin EVERY year. I've ridden with Matt Grainger before.... he's a scary good driver.

Yeah, but this was the national championships, so you'd think driver skill would be fairly high all around, not like some of the local events...

It *could*. It may not be inherently better, but it's really not possible to tell what cars can ultimately outhandle other cars due to the biggest variable... the driver.

There is one way though. You get one driver, a bunch of cars on one day, and hook up a gyroscope to each car when the driver drives it. The further out it records the g-forces in each direction the better the car handles. Because handling isn't just about turning, it's about braking, accelerating, turning, and all the different combinations of the three of those things. Which means that there's a lot of gray area in there that simple skidpad and slalom numbers simply can not represent.

Doesn't mean that you should respond with an unrealistic point of view. Anybody who has a clue of what they're talking about will tell you that the F-Body, in capable hands, is a really fast car no matter where you put it. There's no need to prove that to the idiots.

So much for the handling stereotype.
