    I am having trouble with setting up the fax in winxp home. In the fax install wizard it keeps trying to detect my modem, with no luck. Im running broadband thru a westell modem and a belkin router, with no pci modem card installed on my machine. Do I have to have the pci modem in order to use the fax service, or is there a way to set it up thru my router? Im a real greenhorn when it comes to shit like this.

    You must have a fax modem to use the fax service in XP. You can however use an online fax service to send and receive faxes. ($)

    broadband modem != fax modem.

    $15 and a phone line gets you a working winmodem.

    I would also look into symantec winfax pro. The built in fax sucks. You can not even attach documents to it.

    I've had issues with winfax and sp2, just so you know. It's the only program that doesn't play nice so far.

    for security reasons you really need to upgrade to sp2...

    keeping sp1 is like still using windows 95 -- prolly not a great idea.
