My favorite is Paul Thomas Anderson,
Boogie Nights, Magnolia, & Punch Drunk Love.

My other favorites are Scorsese, Goodfellas, Raging Bull, & Taxi Driver.

I also like Cronenberg, what a brilliant, twisted imagination he has.

Meh, very hard question i guess Spielberg, just grew up with his flicks. Also his movies never look boring because of the angles he chooses, and stuff that happen in background.

PTA is definately one of my faves (every actor in his movie really truly acts, even shitty ones).

definately big ones like, Kurosawa, Scorcese, Forman, Stone, Kubrick, Hitchcock, Tarantino, Besson.

Caught my eye: Liman, Fincher, Aronofsky, Nolan etc etc etc.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as lionsgraphics but two of my top favorites are Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Delicatessen, City of Lost Children, Amelie...) and François Truffaut(the whole Antoine Doinel collection and more).

My faves are Paul Thomas Anderson for Boogie Nights (Mark Wahlberg was fab!) and Punch Drunk Love too! I find the latter refreshing for an Adam Sandler starrer.Stanley Kubrick,George Lucas and Spielberg top my list too.

I also like Toro, the director of Pan's Labryinth & Y Tu Mama Tambien.

There are a couple of exciting directors emerging from Mexico right now, directing the screenplays American directors won't. (Just kidding.)
