Father Arrested For Using Shotgun To Protect Daughter
    KAKE News
    Nick VinZan
August 10 - A Kansas father is arrested for grabbing a shotgun to protect his teenage daughter. No one was hurt in the incident, but it could be every young man's nightmare. One Garden City teen's nightmare came true when he went to a girl's house and her father came out with a shotgun. Police arrested the father, Charles Keller. Brevan Woydziak was one of those boys targeted. He says he and his friend Harrison James were bored so they went over to Keller's house to see his 15 year old daughter.

The boys say they threw a bottle cap at the window to wake her up. Police say the girl apparently didn't recognize the boys at first, so she called her dad. He grabbed a shotgun, ran outside and fired. The blast hit the passenger side of James' pickup. Officers believe Keller may have been trying to do more than just protect his daughter. They say his house was robbed last June and he may have thought the suspects had come back to strike again.

Keller is facing several charges including two counts of aggravated assault, one count criminal damage and unlawful discharge of a firearm. He has been released from jail.

Blasting the kids truck was a bit over the top :dunno:

Seems he was a little bit paranoid. I definitly wouldn't fire into a random truck. Bad move on the dad's part.

Running outside makes everything look so much less like self defense.

I could understand running out there with a shotgun at the ready, but shooting at the truck was over the top. Sucks that he'll lose his gun privleges forever.

If he doesn't go to jail, his daughter will probably never have a boyfriend while at home

you're going to read about me like this some day. Except it'll be an AK instead of a shotgun. And I probably won't miss :(

He should get off with a stern talking to just for having the sack to prove that he's got "a .45 and shovel...nobody will miss you.."

I wouldnt have acted like he did, but I definately would have gotten my shotgun out and loaded it just in case it was those burglars again.

when you live out in a farming community where the nearest deputy is an hour away, you have to be a little more forceful when you get unwanted guests, especially if he had been robbed previously.

I can almost understand where his actions came from (you can't be meek when living that far out in the country....) but I firmly believe you should know exactly what you are aiming at BEFORE pulling the trigger (unless it's inside your home....at night....and all family members are accounted for)

:werd: had it been a burglar I got no problem with blasting them or there vehicle up, but if your not sure what your target is dont pull the trigger.

Very lucky he didn't hit 'em. Also tactically you never want to leave your house. Perhaps turn on all the exterior lights if they're off and shine a flashlight outside. Then see if they leave, while you call the cops.

Actually, that just makes it harder to look outside the window because of the reflection from the lights inside.
