i think it is because you are annoying them. you obviously didn't read the sticky with the forum rules about how you can't talk about stealing software and shit like that. that means no one wants to help you.

Can we please try to keep some perspective here? This thread and another thread that was started recently both contain references to stuff that might be illegal, but in neither case is anyone asking how to do something that's illegal. If we're going to rule out helping people do stuff that might lead to other activities that are illegal, then we might as well not answer any questions about computers at all.

That had nothing to do with my response. I just sent him to google b/c it was such a simple/basic search. Would of taken less time to search then post here.

(Even though I even filled in the search criteria for him)

    Fine.

    1. Right-click on "My Computer". Choose the "Manage..." option from the menu that appears.

    2. When the "Computer Management" window opens, highlight "Disk Management" in the tree on the left side of the window.

    3. Find the external disk in the list of disks, then partition and format it. If necessary, delete the existing partition and create a new one -- sometimes Windows won't give you all of the available format options until you do this.

    4. ??? :mamoru:

    5. Profit.

    yeah, i've seen that thread

one guy recommended Partion Magic, it will do the trick

another alternative is to format the external hdd to NTFS, then hook it up on an xp machine (maybe a laptop) that is networked with the mac.
different file systems do not matter over a network

You can format a drive larger than 32GB in FAT32, you just have to increase the sector size.

    but why bother?

    1. he can't do it in XP's format tool
    2. if he used an old OS that is not USB 2.0 compatible, it will take like forever to format the external hdd
    3. messing with sector/cluster sizes may confuse programs he use

op,... ditch the external and just buy a freakin USB flash drive.

    1) he can do it through dos, in winxp, iirc
    2) quick formats don't take that long, period. Not much data xfer occurs. USB 1.1 would take longer, but not forever.
    3) sector/cluster size is transparant to 99.999% of apps. The downside, however, is that small files will actually occupy lots of unneccessary space.

Thank you. I have have a pc laptop and my dad is a pc geek. I use mac's all the time at school and all my friends have them. It'll be nice to actually be able to transfer music between them now with this 100gig external hd. Sorry for the confusion with my original post.
