Depends on what you consider "street" legal. The true pump gas drags in Hot Rod has the fastest street car at low 9s (fastest single time posted was 9.06), and that is using 93 octane, DOT legal tires, 30 mile cruise, working lights, blinkers, wipers, full interior.

Fastest car on Drag Radials is a [email protected] by Rick Head in his third generation Camaro.

There's plenty of street driven 8-9-10 second cars out there that really are nothing special. Hell my next project is going to be a 79 fairmont with a nitroused 351 and a c4 that i'm shooting for a 10 second pass driven to and from the track (100 miles each way) on ET streets for less than $1000 in the whole car.

There's a guy with a '71? Plymouth Duster that lets off the gas at 1000' and has run a best of 7.53 --- the reason he lets off the gas is, if he breaks 7.50 he has to make safety modifications to the car that he doesn't want to do.

BTW, check out the SS/A and SS/AA NHRA classes, nothing but a '68 Dart or '68 Barracuda has held the record since '68. I believe the current record is in the 8.6x range and that's with a (according to the rules) stock vehicle.

Those are the infamous 1968 Hurst Hemi Darts and Barracuda Super Sports. Sold without a warranty and with a waiver, full fiberglass front end, lift off hood, no real interior besides two bucket seats, sold on 4 shitty steel wheels with crappy tires, 425 horse 426 hemi and either a 4 speed manual or a 3 speed 727 with a Dana rear and 4.88(?) gears I think. God I love those cars. They ran 10.30s on 1968 slicks, and can easily pull off 9.50s on new slicks completely as driven off the trailer they were delivered on.

The stick cars had the Dana with 4.88 and the autos had Chryslers 8-3/4 with 4.86 :naughty:

well....street legal and the ability to pass NJ state emission tests are two completely seperate things.

Will that car pass a non-emissions test...probably. Will it pass emissions? HELL NO. It does run DOT tires, and probably has more saftey capabilities than any stock street car currently on the road (roll cage, 5pt harnesses, ect ect :)
