Fastest Internet Out There?

Discussion in 'OT Technology' started by iNcReDible fRoGG, Aug 30, 2004.

  1. How would I go about obtaining the fastest Internet out there? Is it possible to get above a megabyte per second for downloads noncommercially? Please recommend what ISP, what cable modem, etc. Thanks!

Uncap your cable modem with charter, and enjoy 5Mbps down, 1Mbps up.

I dont' think the brand of modem matters. I've got Comcast Hi-Speed Internet and I've got 3Mbps download and ~270kbs upload. That's their standard internet service. They offer an "extreme" version that is closer to 4Mbps down and 384kbps upload. I'm considering it, since I would like to be a more effective game host on Xbox Live.

RCN has just upgraded their MegaModem service to "Mach 7" which they claim is up to 7 Mbps.

if comcast servers your area, you can get comcast business internet thing to your house. They let you choose the speed I think.

How do you like the 3mbps DSL? I have regular DSL and was either considering getting the 3mbps upgrade for $36.99 a month, or i was going to get cable, which is a bit more expensive.

i know my school has 5 cinder blocks each connected to it's own T3 to Telus (our ISP).

So depending on what area of the school you are in, you could be on a different block.

and I am sure they have it set up so each person can only get a percentage of the total bandwidth. In my experiance the colleges I have been to have been a 1.5mbps or less speed per dorm room.
