What is the general consensus these days for doing cardio first thing in the morning before eating? Not hardcore HIIT mind you, but low-moderate type cardio.

Most of the stuff I've read says it doesn't make much difference unless you're already uber-lean.

I think it makes a difference as well.. liver glycogen is already depleted, you are already in a fat-burning mode.. the instant you eat something that triggers an insulin response, you will be effectively curbing the fat-burning that you are attempting to do..

but aren't you likely to also likely to burn a fair share of muscle along with the fat since the body it catabolic in the morning?

At the end of the day the amount of fat you burn is in the amount of caloric deficit, not what time you do cardio.

I think it works fine becasue you can do a AM cardio session and then PM weight training.

I'm not sure where the notion originated from but it's absolutely absurd to think that taking a god damn walk for 30 minutes on an empty stomach will cause any loss in muscle tissue.

These type of issues are decided on a week to week basis, not even a day to day, much less in 30 minutes.

    Unless you're doing a long run (~10 miles) i think it's ok.
before my sunday long runs, i usually just eat a bagel or banana so i don't get that hungry feeling during the run
