anyone else think this is a sadly over looked and under rated exercise?
Yes on both accounts
Yeah the problem is most people just dont have access to farmers walk handles. Sure you can do them with dumbells but most gyms dont have DB's heavy enough.
Yes, nothing shocks the body like farmers walk.
I use to do them every week at my old gym, now Im at a evh/pen style gym and Im fucked
what is a farmers walk?
I doubt most people at a gym would be able to walk 10ft while holding the 150lb BDs
i wasn't sure my forarms were going to hold the 90s I just did.
Feels good man
there are many variants. and try walking 100-200ft with the 100's you will find that the gym generally has heavy enough weights for most everyone. Even the 60's can be brutally heavy for any significant distance.
Doing one side at a time is also great for enhancing spine stability.
i have done them once, almost threw up on a turn, haven't had the desire to try again
my gym is actually pretty legit, just i'm not legit. too small.
What is Planet Fitness?
That's like the best part of lifting...pfffft.
People would look at me funny if I walk back and forth in the gym.
yes they do. so?
besides nothing says you have to walk back and forth, just carry them like you are going somewhere to use them. then carry them back like your done now. see, nothing strange about that
I grab the 75 lb dumbells (as high as my gym goes) and just walk around the perimeter of the area......the people on the cardio machines look at me like im insane while im walking around them with that look in my eye like omg wtf
great for forearms and traps
Who is going to look at you, the fat out of shape women lifting 5lb DBs or the old men standing around doing nothing?
Walk them over to the treadmill and job with them and see how they look at you then.
i'm gonna use those big buckets n fill them with cement. i've been meaning to add them to my routine for a while now
rather than using a flimsy wire bucket handle you can put a length of bent metal in the cement for a handle. you might want to curve at each end if they are heavy enough it could pull out a piece of pipe without a bend.
bump for farmers walk
love farmers walks, my old gym used to be perfect for them. Had a fitness room that wasnt occupied during the day so id just carry the db's in there and do sets of them. Then the carry back to the db rack was just torture. My gym now is tiny and too much shit in the way.
I do them on training day
350 each side for 60 feet
