Any tips from personal experience as to things to check look for while purchasing, good vs bad makes, etc.? I'm reading throuhg falfiles & recguns to try and learn the basics.

Found one locally for a little over $500, had never even seen one previously. A quick check on gunbroker shows that price is a little high, but by the time you figure shipping & transfer fee it doesn't seem bad, but I don't really know jack about them to know if that particular gun is worth it or shit.

It's hard to go wrong with DSA's. Even the Stg58's, which are kit guns, are built using new condition parts. The Stg58 is pretty much the best deal you can get on a new FAL.

Century FALs can be hit or miss. Stay away from anything with an aluminum receiver.

There are also a lot of kit built guns floating around built on Imbel receivers. The "gear logo" receiver is considered to be one of the best you can buy. So if you find a kit gun built on an Imbel receiver, it'll likely be okay.

Tell us more about the FAL you're looking at?

Thanks for the tips. I'll find more out about it tomorrow. I had gone to look at 10/22's and was surprised to see they had a FAL. I didn't even bother to ask to see it since I didn't know much about them and I didn't want the salesman running some line of shit on me.

I've been looking into buying an STG58 kit and building it on an Imbel reciever. Is it worth it?

FALs are good guns. I'd recommend buying that huge FAL book and reading up on that. Their are so many variants etc. But, your generic STG-58 is an overall excellent rifle.

I've been out of buying FALs for a while and was amazed how much prices on kits have gone up. When someone offered $2500 for my Izzy HB I was shocked. Then when I got online and saw G1 kits were almost non-existant etc.

On a plus side I bought NIB SUIT sight for my L1a1 today.

Meh, this forum doesn't let me host pictures. At least from what I have tried.

It's just a pretty much mint HB kit on a Imbel receiver. I also have it's little sister with original "pre-ban" SBL-import Israel Type I receiver
