So I was asked to do a 1 hour shoot for some Christmas cards for a friend, I've shot a lot of their friends with awesome results but I completely failed this morning.

First off, we met up around 7:30 AM (still completely dark outside) since they had other plans, next it was 5 Degrees when we did the shoot, I'm used to shooting on the cold since I spend all day on the hills shooting skiers/snowboarders, but I felt soo bad for them since they were all shivering, especially the little girl. I tried discussing poses with them before the shoot, but due to the cold it seemed like we couldn't really get the cooridnation down. I was going to charge them 65hr since i've shot a lot of their friends, plus whatever prints they ordered.

What I have decided to do and already told them, I'm going to not charge a sitting fee on this one and give them prints at cost, especially since we were out there for only like 25 minutes due to the cold.....I guess I just don't want to ruin my reputation :(

Here is an example, I'll post the rest up tonight when I get home from work and after I process them all, I just ran this through photoshop with some action, I'll have to re process it when I get home.

Was that taken at leaning tower of pisa? All subjects centered, no interesting play with all the lines you can get from the columns.

to me it seems that the pictures are OoF. Also, and this is just my personal preference, but I like to see catchlight in the eyes or some kind os sparkle and yours are completely dark. She is a cute kid. Too bad it was so cold. Maybe do a reshoot? I personally would much rather have good pictures than discounted pictures. But maybe try for just before sundown so it is not so cold out??

Yeah, I wish I could've done more. Thats why I made this thread, if I could've had time to setup my lights I would've too, it was soo dark out there. I was just rushing and going too fast due to the fact that I felt really bad watching them freeze and you can see it in all the pictures, this was a last minute shoot and they needed them done today. I guess we learn from our mistakes.

Any reason why if it's 5 degrees outside they didn't have any coats on?

Generally it's not a good idea to take pictures of people outside because of what we saw, their faces getting really red.

Those are awful. Reshoot. If it is too cold, why not shoot indoors?

completely agree - I would've used a speedlite and added a tiny amount of fill. with that you can salvage the images IMO

well the good news is that in making this thread, you realised you can't charge for these.

Free reshoot, better prep, better pre-visualisation of what you're there to achieve.

post up the results of the reshoot.
